Hopefully this works for other people too. I'm also not sure what the mechanism for limiting this would be for non NVidia GPUs, but I'm sure it exists. Maybe the game doesn't have an intelligent way to limit frames if your hardware is good enough to let it climb well above 120. Because the causes of this error are so varying, I have listed all possible solutions below. For some people it appears right away when the game is starting up. Played through the last 4 chapters which took several hours and it was smooth the whole time. 'Dead Space.exe has stopped working' This problem first appeared for me in Chapter 1 in the maintenance bay. I tried that (Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings -> Program Settings (Select Dead Space) -> Max Frame Rate = 120) and I haven't had a single crash since. When the game WAS running, it was a smooth 144fps or more to match my monitor, but then I read in a different thread about these crashes that someone stopped them by lowering their max FPS for Dead Space in the NVidia Control Panel. Then I switched over to my new desktop with a 4090 and an i9-13900KF, and right away I started seeing the DX crashes. Works out of the box but wasn't able to confirm online multiplayer. First things: adjust your resolution, kill vsync, and use choke to throttle to 60fps for a better time. I played for several hours without any crashes on my 2080 ti and older Ryzen chip, but I getting some occasional stutters which I chalked up to just not lowering my settings enough. Capped at 30 fps default, this game works right on install. You'll then be able to play the game without the extra unlocks. exe, and copy it to the Dead Space 2 folder. Simply make a backup copy of the currently installed. I also ran into the DirectX crashing issue, but only after I upgraded my computer. To remove this DLC, either play the game on Origin, or download the original.
